After being diagnosed with MS in 1999, Williams was determined to do everything he could to spread awareness and raise funds for MS research.

Therefore he created the Montel Williams MS Foundation. Since its inception in 2000, the foundation has distributed more than $1.5 million dollars to research organizations that study MS. Some beneficiaries include the Nobel Prize winning Karolinska Institute in Sweden, The Brigham & Womens Hospital Multiple Sclerosis Center at Harvard Medical School, and the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University, to name a few.
